Methandieone Tablet contains Methandienone 10 mg as its active ingredient. It is used for the rapid restoration of muscle tissue atrophied during recovery from traumatic injury, offsetting muscle catabolism in patients with wasting syndromes, and treating certain types of anemia that are non-responsive to first-line agents.
Indications and Usage
- Muscle Tissue Restoration: Aids in the rapid restoration of muscle tissue atrophied during recovery from traumatic injury.
- Muscle Catabolism Prevention: Helps offset muscle catabolism in patients with wasting syndromes.
- Anemia Treatment: Effective in treating certain types of anemia non-responsive to first-line agents.
Contraindications
The use of Methandieone is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Not indicated for women, children, or the elderly.
- Patients with diagnosed or suspected male breast carcinoma or carcinoma of the prostate.
- Patients with diagnosed or suspected female breast carcinoma with hypercalcemia.
- Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant due to possible masculinization of the fetus.
- Patients with hypercalcemia.
- Patients with pre-existing cardiac, renal, and/or hepatic disease.
- This product is hepatotoxic and requires hepatic monitoring; discontinue if jaundice presents.
Drug Interactions
- Oral Hypoglycemic Agents: May inhibit the metabolism of oral hypoglycemic agents, requiring dosage adjustments.
- Anticoagulants: Anabolic steroids may increase sensitivity to oral anticoagulants; patients should be monitored regularly, especially during the initiation and termination of therapy.
Side Effects/Adverse Reactions
Men:
- Prepubertal: Phallic enlargement, increased frequency of erections.
- Postpubertal: Inhibition of testicular function, oligospermia, gynecomastia.
Women:
- Hirsutism: Male pattern baldness, deepening of voice, clitoral enlargement. These changes are usually irreversible even after prompt discontinuation of therapy and are not prevented by concomitant use of estrogens.
- Menstrual irregularities, masculinization of the fetus.
Overdosage
Signs and symptoms of overdosage are associated with the known effects of the drug. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including the evacuation of stomach contents by emesis and, if indicated, lavage, taking care to prevent aspiration. Monitoring of liver function is advised.
Precautions
- Liver Function: Elevated liver enzymes and in extreme cases hepatic dysfunction may occur. 17 alpha-alkylated androgens may cause cholestatic hepatitis and jaundice, particularly with larger dosages or prolonged treatment. Liver function should be monitored for changes, including serum bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (AP).
- Edema: May be increased in patients on concurrent adrenal cortical steroid or ACTH therapy.
- Lipid Levels: Anabolic steroid hormones may increase low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and decrease high-density lipoproteins (HDL). Lipid levels generally return to normal upon discontinuation of treatment.
Dosage and Administration
Methandieone therapy is adjunctive to and not a replacement for conventional therapy. The duration of therapy will depend on the response of the condition and the appearance of adverse reactions. Therapy should be intermittent and no longer than necessary for optimal results. The usual initial adult dosage is 5 mg daily. For maintenance, 2.5 to 5 mg daily is usually sufficient. For adult males, 25-30 mg taken orally per day in divided doses for a duration of 3 to 6 weeks.
